2018 WORKSHOPS

Landscape photography workshops are a fantastic way to experience some of the world’s most beautiful places whilst improving your technique, and for 2018 I'm running four carefully designed tours to some truly breath-taking places in Iceland and Italy through Light Explorers, a dedicated workshop company I run with other professional landscape photographers.

Using our in-depth knowledge of these iconic locations our aim is to give you every opportunity to get great photographs while improving your technique through expert tuition in the field, as well as in post processing sessions which help you get the most out of your images.

We hope to inspire you and share our enthusiasm for these unique places, and through our technical and creative oversight ensure you take home both wonderful photographs and fantastic memories from your time with us.

I also offer one day 1 - 1 street photography workshops in my home city of Lisbon throughout the year.   We'll look at the different approaches to street photography in some of the most vibrant, atmospheric and beautiful neighbourhoods of the city which I've been shooting  for over 10 years.

The lush green fields and rolling hills of Tuscany are one of landscape photography’s most iconic scenes.  The area around Val d’Orcia has attracted photographers and artists for years and it’s easy to see why.  Mist filled valleys and cypress tree-lined roads are everywhere you look, picturesque hilltop towns and vineyards, Tuscany is a beautiful landscape that you can’t help but be seduced by.

Iceland is surely near the top of almost every photographers bucket list of places to shoot, and rightly so.  The landscape here is utterly unique offering the kind of scenes that you simply can’t witness anywhere else on earth.   Glaciers and waterfalls, black pebble beaches and jagged mountain peaks, the diversity is seemingly endless and it’s the kind of trip where you can’t fail to be inspired by the epic nature of the scenery.  During July the golden hour, sunset, twilight and sunrise merge into each other lasting for hours, and all the elements are in place for truly unforgettable experience.

In a country of truly amazing landscapes the Icelandic highlands offers perhaps the most incredible scenery of all.  The vast interior of this beautiful country has some of the most diverse and jaw-dropping landscapes imaginable.  Surrounded on all sides by glaciers, this is an area of black sand deserts, snow covered peaks, and mountains of every colour imaginable, from the vivid green moss covered hills of the Hvanngil and Mælifellssandur, to the deep oranges and red rhyolite valleys of Landmannalaugar.  Lakes and rivers, lava fields and waterfalls, landscapes that change every few kilometres, there is simply so much to see in the highlands.

Of all the different facets of landscape photography, mountains offer perhaps the most magnificent scenery to capture and the breath-taking towers and peaks of the Dolomites are among the most beautiful mountains in the world.  Rising almost vertically from dense forests and reflected in mirror-like alpine lakes it's impossible not to be both awed and inspired by the stunning vistas everywhere you look.

1-TO-1 STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS IN LISBON

Lisbon is, in my perhaps biased opinion, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  Blessed with atmospheric neighbourhoods scattered across it's various hills, winding streets, beautiful river views and great light, it really is a paradise for street photography.   I've been photographing my home city since 2006 and running workshops here since 2011.  Typically a workshop covers the whole day, from morning till sunset and will take in two or three neighbourhoods with a break in early afternoon for review and a look at post-processing.

2017 WORKSHOPS

LISBON'S WILD COAST

4 DAY / 3 NIGHT LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

24 - 27 October 2017

€1250     SOLD OUT

West of Lisbon lies some of the most dramatic coastline in Europe.  At Cabo da Roca, mainland Europe’s most westerly point, towering rock stacks stand just offshore of isolated stony beaches and Atlantic waves pound the cliffs, this really is a landscape photographers paradise.  Westerly facing, it’s perfect for sunset with all the elements needed to create some stunning images of the ocean, and if we get clear skies at night we may even get the chance to photograph the stars.

LISBON STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

2 DAY / 2 NIGHT STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

15 - 17 September

€650   SOLD OUT

Lisbon really is a unique and beautiful city.  Its old neighbourhoods are spread across several hills where winding streets and atmospheric dark alleyways twist and turn before opening out into gardens with panoramic views across the city and it’s glittering river.  Bordered on two sides by the Tejo, the river is a constant presence in the city from the waterside parks to the two elegant bridges that arc across its width while small ferries traverse it’s waters.

TESTIMONIALS

Thank you for a great workshop experience & for your great company over the 4 days.  I really enjoyed the group, the shooting, the accommodation, the food, the differing locations & most of all, the opportunity to shoot consistently over an extended period.  The eye has a chance to hone in on good light & composing moves closer to becoming second nature (or perhaps, third or fourth nature but definitely out of double figures!)

Brendan Jack, Dubai

Many Thanks Andy and the team for these terrific 4 days we've spent in the workshop with lots of fun, companionship, and of course, your expertise, committment and passion ! Could not be happier with the experience ! Hope this gets to be the first of many to come.

Hugo Antonio, Portugal

I have had the good fortune of working with Andy for a number of years.  He has taken me to various locations in Portugal, all of which were hand picked places of beauty and interest for a keen eyed landscape photographer. On each occasion, his workshops have been rich and varied experiences, both technically and artistically.

Andy has such empathy towards his students. He not only explains how to create a worthwhile image, but also demonstrates why his techniques work; guiding you through the depth and subtleties of photography. I have always found that the knowledge gained from working with Andy rubs off in such a way that it stays with you permanently.

David Cornelius-Reid, UK
